Keeping it green has always been a focus for us here in Bowden, and getting our hands dirty in the process is just part of the fun.
We’ve been working on a few projects to ensure more of our fabulous community can feel involved in the things that matter to them… like growing the perfect pear or pineapple.
For that, we’re happy to announce that the Park Terrace Community Garden is back! After a period of hibernation, the garden is heading in a new and exciting direction and is looking for new members.
Funding has been provided by Adelaide City Council for a stylish new fence around the garden plots, keeping them nice and secure. A number of dedicated community members have been helping to get the garden back on track, but there’s room for plenty more as both garden members and to be on the garden committee.
A number of the current members will be at the garden on Saturday 20th Aug from 10.00 am to 10.30 am for a chat if you would like more information or if the weather permits to help you get your hands dirty gardening. Hop over to their Facebook page to find out how to get involved in this great little section of our community.
Speaking of little sections of our community, there’s even more gardening fun to be had next to the Adelaide Bike Kitchen on Third Street. The Park Terrace Community Garden Committee will be establishing a smaller pop-up style community garden with 12 wicking beds (which are raised garden beds that save water and provide easy access) in Bowden’s heart.
Some dedicated wicking beds will be available for lease in a fenced-off area and others will be communal plots in an unfenced area where you can nip by and tend to the basil and rosemary when kitchen inspiration strikes!
We are also calling for registrations of interest from the community to be involved in the committee, working bees to set up the wicking beds and ongoing membership and maintenance of the garden.
With the brilliant and thriving Brompton Community Garden right round the corner, but always packed to the brim with registrations, we wanted to ensure our residents can get the gardening on a little closer to home. If Brompton Community Garden is anything to go by, these plots will go quick! So don’t delay in getting in touch, this Green Star Community is about to get even greener.
