Things are moving down at the former Gasworks site! The Renewal SA Works Program is supporting 20 existing workers (trades and apprentices) who are undertaking the Inaugural Cert III in Heritage Trades delivered by FCTA (Registered Training Organisation) learn old and new techniques by helping restore some of these beautiful buildings.

It seems the students are enjoying themselves too, with some wonderful feedback being provided. “I thoroughly enjoyed my week at the Gasworks site. The architecture and structure blows me away and I’m very keen to keep working and learning about bringing it back to its former glory. We never stopped learning, great experience.”

Trish Baff, Manager at FCTA, said “We had some brilliant feedback from everyone involved with the Gasworks restoration work. The students couldn’t believe that there was a site so expansive and untouched that close to the city. It gave them the chance to learn a bit more about the history of the city and understand how buildings used to function. The site provided excellent examples of building materials and techniques that are no longer used.”

Thank you to all the staff and students for their dedicated work to this important part of the Bowden project. We’re glad to see you enjoying it as much as we do.
