Looking for something a little different? Pop on your walking shoes and head on down to the Brompton Gasworks this May.
Lighting the Way: Brompton Gasworks Paste-ups, is a self-guided exhibition and is part of the month-long South Australian History Festival. It highlights the impactful role Brompton Gasworks played in the development of the state, through a range of beautiful historic photos and images.
We often wander the streets of our community without really considering their past and those who walked them before us. This street exhibition is a free little reminder to appreciate the growth of our community and be thankful for how we’re able to blend the past with the future in Bowden.
So make your way along the boundary of the Brompton Gasworks along Chief Street to begin your own walking art tour combined with a rich history lesson.
This project is presented by local resident Katriona Kinsella with support from Bowden Brompton Futures Group, Hindmarsh Residents Association Community Archive Group, City of Charles Sturt (Place Making Grant), South Australia’s History Festival 2021, Renewal SA and former SAGASCO Brompton Gasworks workers.
If you’d like to see the map or full reference list for the exhibition head to the event on the Brompton Gasworks website.
