Permanent carpark closure from Monday 15 August 2022

15 September 2022

Permanent carpark closure from Monday 15 August 2022 to make way for a new townhouse development.

The temporary carpark on the corner of Gibson and Fifth Streets in Bowden will soon be converted into a building site as Bowden’s next townhouse development gets underway.

This means that from Monday 15 August 2022, this free carpark will be closed permanently and there will no longer be any public access to this site.

Cars that remain parked on this site from 15 August will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Alternative parking options

Motorists who are accustomed to using this temporary carpark may wish to explore the following alternative parking options:

  • the temporary, time-restricted carparks between Second and Third Streets (near the Bowden Information and Sales Centre and Plant 4)
  • the on-street, time-restricted parking bays throughout Bowden (time limits span 30 minutes to three hours), noting that these are regularly patrolled
  • the Adelaide Entertainment Centre “Park and Ride” (which includes secure bike cages, bike lockers and disability parking bays)
  • Secure Park (old fish market) at the Raptis site between Port Road and the railway
  • one of the paid Parkhound parking spaces that are available in various locations around Adelaide: https://www.parkhound.com.au/parking-adelaide.

Alternative transport options

The Bowden project has been planned and designed as a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) with good access to public transport as well as cycling and walking routes and share cars. This approach is intended to discourage private car use and ownership in favour of greener, more active transport options.

These alternative transport options include:

Train

  • Bowden Train Station is located approximately 70 metres from Fifth Street. Adelaide Metro trains run between Grange, Outer Harbor and Adelaide and stop at Bowden every 15 minutes.
  • North Adelaide Train Station is located approximately 330 metres from Third Street. Adelaide Metro trains will recommence this service this year between Gawler and Adelaide.

Tram

  • Adelaide Entertainment Centre Tram Stop is approximately 300 metres from Fifth Street. Trams to and from Adelaide stop here every 15 minutes.

Share cars

  • There are two FlexiCars available in Bowden, including a shared Toyota Corolla Hybrid parked in a dedicated space on Fifth Street and a shared Hyundai Kona parked in a dedicated space on Third Street: https://flexicar.com.au/
  • There are three Car Next Door vehicles available in Bowden, including a shared Mazda 3 and two shared Toyota Hiaces: https://www.carnextdoor.com.au/

Bicycles

  • Adelaide Bike Kitchen provides community bike maintenance services from its base on the corner of Third Street and Gibson Street.
  • Cycling (and walking) paths along the greenways and parklands trails provide safe off-road links to the CBD.
