Something fishy in Bowden

Bowden’s newest food haven to pop up is just in time for summer and your Christmas dinner table.

The House of Fish is an all South Aussie fish shop with a deep passion for great seafood. Jarn Jamison and his team have been in the industry for 35 years. From fishing to fish mongering, to processing plants and now their own fish shop, where you can grab something to eat hot off the grill.

They stock an immaculate array of locally caught seafood mainly based in the waters of Port Lincoln (with the exception of Coffin Bay’s finest oysters, Tassie Salmon and Townsville Barra) and when it’s gone? It’s gone. There’s no freezing or saving here. Just the freshest produce, most of which is caught Ikejime style.

Ikejime is a Japanese line style of catching fish, which has a large socially conscious focus. Their aim is to deliver the Bowden community and beyond with some of the highest grade (yes, sashimi grade is available) fish and seafood; caught fresh and sustainably in the morning and served up hot (or cold) and delicious that night. The true meaning of ocean to plate. All while supporting trusted local fishermen in the process.

They provide in house pickled and smoked products too, including octopus, mussels and calamari. Speaking of keeping things in house, their ‘eat it now’ food offerings include as many ingredients from other in house supplies as possible. Spices from House of Organics, breads from The Lost Loaf. They pay this forward by providing several in house eateries with their produce, such as Aki at Kome Kome and even the IGA. They’re passionate about community and it shows. We think they’re fitting in pretty well already!

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday nights be sure to swing by for piping hot fish and chips or a few fish tacos. While at lunch you should really be getting yourself a plate of oysters or a fresh seafood platter. Enjoy in-house at Plant 4 or take it back to your Bowden balcony to enjoy over a perfect sunset.

With Christmas around the corner, be sure to slide into their Instagram DM’s for the perfect catch for your festive table. Or simple stop by the store, located on the ground floor of Plant 4 Bowden.
