This local has been gracing our streets since the 1800s but things are looking very different behind these Brompton doors. The recently reopened Gaslight Tavern on Chief Street is returning to its roots as the Brickmakers Arms, but aside from the heritage name and architecture, very little else is the same about this historic site.

A short stroll from the centre of Bowden, owners Katie Pettigrew, Dan Brenton, and Michael, Scott and Jason Lawrie have brought their hospitality expertise to transform the venue which has laid dormant for some time.

If you were familiar with the former Gaslight Tavern, walking in the front door will certainly be a shock. The owners have transformed the dark and dated space into a light, bright, inviting venue where everyone is welcome.

Now the spotlight is on excellent, locally focused drinks and a beautiful menu designed by owner and chef, Dan Brenton. Dan, alongside the other owners has worked at the Parkside and Franklin hotels so he knows a thing or two about what Adelaideans love when it comes to a modern pub meal.

You can get all the classics like schnitzels, burgers and fish and chips, as well as brilliant dishes you simply wouldn’t expect from your local. We loved the fish tacos, whole roast cauliflower and smoked chicken salad (pictured). The menu caters to plenty of dietary needs with exciting and creative dishes. 

Though the doors are open, the beer garden and family area out the back is still taking shape. You can enjoy yourself indoors by the fire to keep things cosy for these cooler months, with the perfect outdoor area coming when things heat up.

The owners are community-focused folks and you’ll often see them around the place, so be sure to welcome them to our neighbourhood with traditional Bowden charm.
